How Does Veterinary Urgent Care Work?

Our veterinary team in Louisville, KY welcomes you and your pet for Veterinary Urgent Care!

We Treat Your Pet’s Non-Emergent Needs: Veterinary urgent care functions similarly to human urgent care, providing immediate attention to pets experiencing non-life-threatening emergencies. Our facility is designed to handle situations that require prompt medical attention but are not severe enough to warrant a visit to a full-service emergency veterinary hospital.

When a pet is brought into a veterinary urgent care center, the process typically begins with a triage. The veterinary staff assesses the severity of the pet’s condition to prioritize treatment based on medical need. Following this, the pet is examined by a veterinarian who will diagnose the issue and propose a treatment plan. This could range from medication to minor surgical procedures.

It’s important to note that while veterinary urgent care centers are equipped to handle a wide range of situations, extremely critical cases may still be referred to a specialized emergency hospital.

What to Expect at LVUC

1

Identify the Need

Your pet has an urgent but non-emergent medical concern. This could be anything from a minor injury to a sudden illness that doesn't seem life-threatening but still requires prompt attention.
2

Evaluate Availability

Your regular vet can't see your pet soon enough or their office hours don't align with your schedule. You also don't believe your pet's condition is severe enough to warrant a visit to the emergency room.
3

Verify Hours

Check the operating hours of our urgent care facility. Unlike emergency rooms, our urgent care center is not open 24/7. Choose a facility that can accommodate your schedule.
4

Make the Visit

Once you've chosen LVUC, take your pet in for a visit. Remember to bring any relevant medical records or information that could assist in your pet's care.
5

Skip the Line

Skip the line by calling ahead or checking in online prior to your visit.
6

Follow-Up Care

After your visit, follow up with your regular vet if necessary. All records from the visit will be sent to your regular veterinarian to ensure continuity of care and appropriate follow ups.
